Who are we?
Hailing from Zoetermeer, our roots run deep as we blend classic and contemporary rock hits into a diverse playlist that suits all ages. We’re a bunch of music enthusiasts who’ve made it our mission to spice up well-known tunes for everyone’s pleasure. Picture this: Rody on the mic, Sam on the bass, Jaap and Martin shredding on guitars, Lars killing it on drums, and Jan rocking the keys. Together, we whip up a musical act that will blow everyone away!
Rody - Singer
My name is Rody and I am the singer of our band. I’m 32 years old and grew up in Zoetermeer, The Netherlands. Since the last year of elementary school I started making music. After I realised I had an okay singing voice I started to develop on it. I started to teach myself the guitar and the bass. In 2013 I joined a melodic hardrock band from Leiden called @__suffix__ in which I played the bass for 3/4 years. After that I sang in multiple small coverbands and in 2021 I joined Take Cover! From that moment on I focus on the band and our performances. I’m an store manager in my daily life. In my free time I’d like to play games and hang with my friends. Now that the band is ready to play more shows I hope to see you there, and maybe have a chat afterwards! You know where to find me!
Martin - Rhythm Guitar
Rhytm guitarist Martin here to introduce myself. I’m 26 years old and live in a small town which is great for playing my guitars well into the night. When I picked up my first guitar a few years ago, I didn’t expect to play in a band and perform for an audience. In 2018 I starting teaching myself Nirvana songs, then I taught myself Red Hot Chili Pepper songs and now I’m focussing on Pink Floyd. I’m an animator by day and musician by night. In my free time I’d like to focus on learning new songs to push my guitar playing skills for the band, which I’m a part of for about a year. Playing with the band on sundays is something I genuinly enjoy. I hope to see you in the audience some time, try and spot me too!
Jaap - Lead Guitar
Hi everyone! My name is Jaap and I am the lead guitarist of our band, TakeCover! I am currently 23 years old and have spent seven of those years teaching myself to play guitar. Unlike the majority of the band, I have never had the pleasure of living in Zoetermeer and instead grew up in Rotterdam. I moved to Leiden a few years ago where I now study Astronomy. Aside from playing guitar, I spend most of my free time at my study association, De Leidsche Flesch, where I am currently doing a board year. Having joined TakeCover! in 2019 back when it was known by a different name, my goal has always been to perform a variety of classic and hard rock songs live and it is what I enjoy doing most. Throughout the years I have spent my time learning a lot of different songs. I started by getting familiar with a lot of different songs by Metallica, then focusing a lot on the discography of Avenged Sevenfold, and am now mostly teaching myself songs by Dream Theater. Aside from always trying to improve, I always try to make sure that I enjoy what I am doing and hope that you’ll enjoy our performances just as much as I enjoy giving them!
Sam - Bass Guitar
Hi there, I’m Sam. I am the bassist and backing vocals of TakeCover! I’m 23 years old and I currently live in Leiden where I study Biology. Music is a big part of my life as I started making music when I was around 8 years old, picking up the saxophone. In 2016 I wanted to do more with music and started playing the bass guitar. My taste in music has a wide range and in my free time I like to play everything from 80’s classics to metal. I grew up in Zoetermeer where I joined the band when it was just founded in 2018, with the ambition to cover classic rock songs and perform them on stage. I enjoy making music with this band and can’t wait for our next performance.
Lars - Drums
Hello and nice to meet you! My name is Lars and I am the drummer for our band TakeCover! Just like TakeCover! itself I was born in Zoetermeer where I have always lived and continue to do so to this day. I have been playing the drums for well over thirteen years now and I have been in multiple bands throughout the years of my “drumming carreer”. When I started out playing my taste in music was rather narrow with me pretty much exclusively apprectiating rock bands like 3 Doors Down. Over the years my musical taste has developed quite a bit considering I now enjoy genres like Jazz, Indie and some Pop aswell. Some of my favorite bands are Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam and PinkFloyd but I hugely appreciate artists like Dermot Kennedy and Michael Kiwanuka aswell. I work as a social worker at a school and I spend my free time with friends, gaming, skiing and of course drumming. I certainly hope you now feel like you know me a little and I am looking forward to meeting you in person. Until then!
Jan - Keyboard
Hi everyone! My name is Jan and I recently joined Take Cover! as keyboard player. I am 29 years old and have been at the keys and guitar on and off during those years, I’m very happy to be back in action and to have the opportunity to play with the others! I grew up in ‘s-Gravenzande, but have since been living in Leiden for quite some time, where I moved to study law and computer science. Having attained those degrees, I’m currently working on my PhD thesis and teaching private law courses at Leiden University. My musical taste is quite diverse and ranges from classical music to pop and (hard) rock, while also thoroughly enjoying some of the more ridiculous acts (e.g. at the Total Loss Festival, for the initiated) and greatly appreciating the current revival of 80s-style electronic/synth music. I can’t wait to see you all at our next gig!
